2022 Global Textile and Apparel Carbon Neutral International Summit

It is a critical period for the global fashion industry to reduce emissions. As the second most polluting industry after the petrochemical industry, the green production of the fashion industry is imminent. The textile industry emits between 122 and 2.93 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere each year, and the life-cycle of textiles, including washing, is estimated to account for 6.7 per cent of total global greenhouse gas emissions.
As the world’s biggest exporter of textile and apparel production and, at the same time is also the world’s largest textile and apparel consumer market, the textile and garment industry in China has always been one of the high energy consumption, high emission industries, pushing against the background of low-carbon economy, promote clean production, natural need to undertake the corresponding responsibility of reducing carbon emissions. Under the background of carbon neutrality and the Paris Agreement, the textile and garment industry chain is undergoing changes in all aspects, from raw material source screening, new technology development to consumption reduction and efficiency improvement in the production process. It is not only end-product retailers that want to achieve carbon neutrality, but also every link in the industrial chain needs to make corresponding changes. However, the textile industry chain is quite long, from fiber, yarn, to fabric, printing and dyeing, to sewing, etc., which is why only 55% of the global top 200 fashion brands publish their annual carbon footprint, and only 19.5% choose to disclose their supply chain carbon emissions.
Based on how the textile industry will promote the dual carbon policy in the context of carbon neutrality, the summit invites relevant policy and regulatory authorities, brands, retailers, textile and garment manufacturers, material suppliers, ngos, consulting agencies and sustainable solution enterprises to share and exchange practical methods.
