Characteristics and uses of polyester filament

Dacron is an important variety of synthetic fiber and is the commercial name of polyester fiber in China. It is based on refined terephthalic acid (PTA) or dimethyl terephthalic acid (DMT) and ethylene glycol (MEG) as raw materials, through esterification or transesterification and polycondensation reaction and the preparation of polymer – polyethylene terephthalate (PET), spinning and post-processing made of fiber. The so-called polyester filament is the length of more than kilometers of silk, the filament wound into a ball. According to different production methods, polyester filament is generally divided into three categories: primary filament, stretch filament and deformation filament.

Characteristics of polyester filament

Strength: Polyester fibers are nearly twice as strong as cotton and three times as strong as wool, so polyester fabrics are strong and durable.

Heat resistance: can be used in -70℃ ~ 170℃, is the best heat resistance and thermal stability of synthetic fibers.

Elasticity: The elasticity of polyester is close to wool, and the crease resistance is better than other fibers. The fabric is wrinkle-free and has good shape retention.

Wear resistance: Polyester wear resistance is second only to nylon, in the second place in synthetic fiber.

Water absorption: Polyester has low water absorption and moisture recovery rate and good insulation performance. However, due to low water absorption and high static electricity generated by friction, the natural adsorption performance of the dye is poor. Therefore, polyester is generally dyed by high temperature and high pressure dyeing.

Dyeing: Polyester itself lacks hydrophilic groups or dye acceptor parts, so the dyeing of polyester is poor, can be dyed with disperse dyes or non-ionic dyes, but the dyeing conditions are harsh.

The use of polyester filament

Polyester as a garment fiber, its fabric after washing to achieve the effect of non – wrinkle, non – ironing. Polyester is often blended or interwoven with various fibers, such as cotton polyester, wool polyester, etc., widely used in a variety of clothing materials and decorative materials. Polyester can be used in the industry for conveyor belt, tent, canvas, cable, fishing net, etc., especially for tire polyester cord, which is close to nylon in performance. Polyester can also be used in electrical insulation materials, acid-resistant filter cloth, pharmaceutical industry cloth, etc. Synthetic fiber has been widely used in various fields of national economy because of its high strength, abrasion resistance, acid resistance, alkali resistance, high temperature resistance, light weight, warmth, good electrical insulation and mildew resistance.
